The Perfect Boat: Buying the Right Kayak for You

Kayaking is a great way to relax. Paddling through the great outdoors at sea can be relaxing for some. To get the most out of your kayaking experience, you’ll have to choose the right kayak for yourself. Here’s an overview of what’s available that could be suitable for your needs.

  • Recreational kayaks are the best choice for anyone starting out. This is because they are designed for calmer waters, usually a lake or a placid river, and are easy to manage. Photographers and anglers would like this type of kayak for its good stability, provided by its wide beam. Measuring from ten to twelve feet long, it would have enough space to stock a few supplies for a day trip.
  • Touring kayaks are for more than the hobbyist. Designed to travel long distances, they can handle rougher weather than recreational kayaks can; additionally, they can travel faster than the latter in the same placid environment. Most of them are usually twelve to sixteen feet long, with their hulls designed for high waves and rough waters. As such, they come with waterproof compartments to keep your stuff dry. They come in two types: day touring ones which are for multi-day kayak trips, and sea kayaks which are for rougher and longer voyages.
  • Sit-on-top kayaks are the ones you buy for kids. It’s easy to maneuver and has molded depressions for sitting. It’s slow, but it’s safe and perfect for warm climates and quiet waters.
